Memorials come in many sizes and shapes. Your cemetery will have rules telling you what style of monument may be placed on the grave, and sometimes they even say what style of engraving is required, or the variety of granite.

Upright markers take on many shapes, but the basic categories are pillow (or bevel), slant, and tablet & base.

The pillow markers are traditionally six inches tall in back, four inches tall in front, and 12 inches front to back. These markers are a nice way to modestly elevate the memorial from the ground. We often like to make them a little larger than the traditional 12 inches front to back so that more wording can be included.

The slant marker is like a wedge on the ground. The back is vertical and the polished face is cut back at an angle. The top is either serpentine or flat. This shape is very popular and is a good compromise between the pillow marker and the tablet & base. The back can be engraved with the family name, poems, photos or other sentiments. Bronze plaques can be attached to the front or back.

The tablet & base is a two piece premium memorial. The base lays horizontal to the ground and the tablet sits on it vertically. Traditionally the tablet is polished front and back, has a serpentine top and chiseled sides. However they can come in many shapes: hearts, crosses, rooftops, pyramids, free form, etc. They can be all-polished, chiseled, or flamed.
